All Facebook Gaming Creators Can Co-Stream Now

Facebook is adding co-streaming to Facebook Gaming, a useful feature that Twitch’s competitor has lacked since its launch in 2018. Plus, while Twitch’s version of a co-streaming feature – “Squad Stream” – requires you to be a Twitch partner, Facebook makes co-streaming accessible to everyone.

“With co-streaming, we aim to increase discoverability for creators, encourage collaboration between creators, and improve the overall viewing experience,” says Facebook. In short, streaming the same game alongside someone else is mutually beneficial. In fact, starting a stream involves tagging up to three other creators when setting up the stream or after your live broadcast. If other creators tag you, then your audience is launched into a “co-streaming viewing experience,” according to Facebook. As well as being a method of introducing creators to each other and their audiences, co-streams also allow viewers to see the same game from different angles.

Audience for Twitch and Facebook Gaming flourished during the pandemic, with Facebook Gaming increasing 82% year-over-year in terms of viewing hours. Adding co-streaming and not forcing streamers to go through the tedious process of partnering – Facebook’s process is known to be somewhat exhausting – could help make Facebook’s platform even more appealing. Hopefully, co-streaming makes the prospect of building an audience easier as well.
