All lanes of the Interstate Highway 680 northbound remain closed just outside the city limits of Fremont in Alameda County unincorporated due to a collision involving two big drill rigs that led to an extended cleaning of gasoline by hazardous materials Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cleanup involves a fuel leak of more than 3,800 gallons of gasoline that spilled after one large platform collided with another, around 1:48 near the road Vargas, according to PCH officer Tyler Hahn. The first big platform collided with the center of the ditch and ended with a jackknif. Seconds later, the other platform hit him.

All traffic is diverted from the highway with a firm closure of North Mission Boulevard and there is no estimated time of reopening, Hahn said. Caltrans teams were onsite at 6 am It began to rain on the scene from 6:15 am.
