MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) – All-Pro cornerback Xavien Howard accepted a reworked contract with the Miami Dolphins 12 days after requesting a trade.
“We’re so glad we did this,” coach Brian Flores said ahead of practice on Sunday. “We want him here, and he’s here.

Flores said there had never been any real concern that the situation would not be resolved.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Howard was still four years old on the five-year extension he signed in May 2019.
Howard’s agent David Canter thanked the Dolphins for “doing something unexpected and difficult to say the least.”

“Several times over the past eight months we all weren’t expecting anything,” Canter said on Twitter. “The organization treated us with absolute class and professionalism.
Howard had 10 interceptions last year, the most in the NFL since 2007. He was limited to training camp due to an ankle injury.
During negotiations, Flores had said the Dolphins did not want to trade Howard.
“In any negotiation, compromise is important,” said Flores. “We want all parties to be happy. We believe that is the case right now, and that is how we are going to move forward. “
