Alleged Surface Pro 8 leaks with all the features you wanted

We’re days away from the big Microsoft Surface launch, where we expect to see the Surface Pro 8, Surface Pro X, Surface Go 3, Surface Book 4, and Surface Duo 2. Today it looks like the Surface Pro 8 fled in all its glory. The leak comes from a screenshot of a list of stores claiming to sell the Surface Pro 8; obviously, this is not confirmed.

The leak comes from @Shadow_Leak on Twitter, and although the screenshot is not in English, the tweet leaves little to the imagination.

First of all, it has the perks you’d expect including 11th gen Intel processors and removable storage. These were included in the commercially exclusive Surface Pro 7+, and as I said in my review at the time, the only reason the product existed was to maintain compatibility with legacy devices, while the real Surface Pro 8 would come later.

Then the 13-inch screen at 120Hz. If you look at the image above, it’s quite similar to a Surface Pro X with narrow side bezels and larger top and bottom bezels. The top frame houses an infrared camera and an FHD webcam (Microsoft is one of the few OEMs to use FHD webcams since 2014 with the Surface Pro 3), while the bottom frame is larger to make room for the way the keyboard folds up against it.

Much like the Surface Pro X, the Surface Pro 8 will have a keyboard with a pen garage, assuming the image is accurate. The device will use the Slim Pen, which charges wirelessly while housed inside the Type Cover. It also implies that the device will be thinner, as the only reason the Surface team made this move with the Pro X was to compensate for the fact that it wasn’t thick enough to attach it magnetically.

Unfortunately, Windows Central’s Zac Bowden says the image isn’t accurate.

And of course the refresh rate is 120Hz, as the dynamic refresh rate will be a feature of Windows 11, Historically, high refresh rates have been linked to gaming, which should make for a better experience for everyone. . This is something we were already waiting for.

This is not all, however. The Surface Pro 8 will ship with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, assuming the leak is correct. Indeed, in 2021 (even about three years ago), Microsoft is the only Windows OEM to sell flagship Intel-powered PCs without Thunderbolt. It’s a feature long overdue for Surface fans, and Microsoft has historically cited security concerns as the reason it never used the interface. Presumably, the company will explain what has changed where it is finally possible.

This is the first completely redesigned Surface Pro powered by Intel since the Surface Pro 3 set the standard for the product in 2014. Keep in mind that the Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 have a completely different charging port. , a Wacom stylus and 16: 9 screens. The Surface Pro 3 gave us the Surface Connect as we know it, the N-Trig pens, and the 3: 2 aspect ratio, all of which are staples of Microsoft’s hardware today.

Naturally, being a leak from an unknown source, it’s fair to be skeptical about this. We’ll see what the Surface Pro 8 looks like on Wednesday.
