After long exchanges, it seems official: John Krasinski returns to direct the continuation of 2018 A silent placeand Deadline reports that Emily Blunt has reached an agreement to play in the film. The film will go into production in July, with a release date already set in May next year.
To hear that Krasinski will return to the staging is not terribly shocking; it seemed likely for a while. Emily Blunt returns is a bit surprising, though. All this time, we had worked a little bit supposing that A quiet place 2 would put emphasis on a completely different character cast, perhaps one of the other survivors evoked in the original. The direct return of Blunt indicates that it's probably a direct sequel to the first movie, which … well, your mileage may vary, but we'd prefer something from one little less obvious.
But, hey, we'll be fine. The first A silent place was an absolute explosion, and we'd be lying if we said we're not interested in spending more time in this strange world. Do what you want with that, Krasinski! We will be there when A quiet place 2 (or possible A quiet place: part II) opens on May 15, 2020.
