Dr Alveda King called on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., to “take a page from Martin Luther King Jr.’s book” Monday after the congresswoman called President Trump a “poison of white supremacy.” “

The New York lawmaker made the comment at a virtual town hall last week before calling on the federal government to direct funds toward “deprogramming” white supremacists in an effort to bridge the racial divide in America.

“I believe AOC should really take a page out of Martin Luther King Jr.’s book …” Alveda told Fox News host Harris Faulkner.

Alveda told Faulkner that while his uncle praised the law for keeping bad actors online, “he also said the law cannot transform the human heart.”

“There are laws in the books now that will severely punish white supremacists, and they should be …” she explained. “We know white supremacy is bad, it needs to be punished, but every crime against humanity is bad and therefore we need to protect human dignity, but not just with the law. We need to transform those hearts.”

Alveda acknowledged that issues of racism need to be addressed, but added that Ocasio-Cortez’s divisive rhetoric contradicts his uncle’s teachings.

“My uncle said that only love can drive out hate,” she explained, “so we have to do both at the same time”.
