Chris Berquist and Javier Cantellops met with Noah Mina's 35-year-old family on Sunday before being transported by helicopter to the search area in the western mountains of Maui, the Maui reported on Monday. News.

Mina was reported missing on May 20 in the Kapilau Ridge area of ​​Wailuku. First aid police and firefighters searched by air and on foot.

Berquist and Cantellops have successfully led the search for Amanda Eller, a physical therapist lost during a hike to Maui earlier this month.

Investigators discovered Mina's slippers at an altitude of 2,500 feet, according to his father, Vincent.

The research will require air support from Federal Aviation Administration-certified drone pilots and donations to help fund private helicopters, Cantellops said.

The family's GoFundMe page raised nearly $ 30,000 on Sunday.

Weather and terrain are major factors in the region where some trail sections are only 2 feet wide along with a 1,800-foot drop, Cantellops said.
