Don’t be fooled by Amazon’s position King tigeris exotic Joe. Variety learned from future star Nicolas Cage that Amazon had dropped out of the series. While the scripts were “excellent”, according to Cage, Amazon would have felt that the project had become “in the past” after taking too long to formulate. The company had lost its chance to capitalize on the success of the Netflix show, to put it another way.
Amazon declined to comment. NBCUniversal’s Peacock service would still have its own King tiger project in preparation, with Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin.
It is not a surprising decision. King tiger gained popularity thanks to both how it can be real and its debut in late March 2020, just as many pandemic lockdowns began. It could have been difficult to find that air of the times. There is also the question of riffing on the show of a rival service. Amazon may not have wanted to advertise Netflix, even though its own series has received critical acclaim.
