Amazon allows third-party sellers to offer lower prices on competing sites

Senator Richard Blumenthal wrote to the chairman of the FTC commission in December to argue that Amazon's policy could "stifle" competition and "artificially inflate prices" for buyers. While it is not certain that the FTC intends to conduct a survey, Amazon's softened approach could respond to potential criticisms by allowing sellers greater flexibility regarding instead and in the way they sell their products – and, of course, at lower prices for customers.

The company has faced numerous surveys of its sales competitiveness over the years, including Kindle book prices and its reduction policy. Whether or not this story played a role in the policy change, he was probably not interested in drawing more attention to his behavior.
