Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration said the twin – engine Boeing 767 aircraft crashed around 12:45 pm. about 3 miles to the west of Chambers County Airport, KHOU reported.
The Chambers County Sheriff's Office said no one had survived, WPLG reported.
Witnesses said they heard the engines of the plane making waves and that the craft had turned sharply before sinking into the dive, Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne.
Dave Clark, Senior Vice President Global Operations at Amazon, said:
"Our thoughts and prayers accompany the flight crew, their family and friends, as well as the entire Atlas Air team during this terrible tragedy. We appreciate first responders who have worked urgently to provide support. "
Hawthorne told the Houston Chronicle late Saturday afternoon that police had found human remains at the scene of the accident.
The investigators also found parts of the plane, he said. "There is everything from cardboard boxes to clothes and bed sheets for women," Hawthorne said.
Hawthorne told the newspaper that the biggest piece of Boeing 767 found by the police was 50 feet long.
The sheriff said that recovery of the pieces of the plane and its black box containing the flight data would be difficult in a muddy bog that extends up to about 5 feet deep in the region . Inflatable boats are needed to access the area.
