Amazon says it no longer works with a delivery driver who was allegedly filmed failing to deliver a PlayStation 5 console.

Home CCTV footage appears to show the driver, who worked for an independent delivery company, exiting his vehicle to deliver packages to Jenni Walker, based in Bicester, UK, on ​​November 19 – the launch day of the PS5 in Europe and his son’s 16th birthday.

However, like many other Amazon customers, Walker didn’t receive his son’s PS5 as expected on launch day.

In between his deliveries, the driver is seen handling what appears to be a box shaped like a PS5 before putting it back in his van and leaving later.

Eurogamer reports that Walker’s daughter went to the local Amazon depot with the CCTV footage in hand and confronted the site boss, who confirmed the man in front of the camera was one of her employees and said he would be sacked.

After the images were uploaded by Walker’s husband Richard, Amazon told Oxford Mail: “We have very high standards for our delivery service providers and the way they serve customers. The shipping partner will no longer ship on behalf of Amazon. “

Following the launch last week, several UK-based Amazon customers claimed their PS5 consoles did not arrive as expected, despite being marked as delivered by couriers.

Some consumers even reported receiving the wrong items in place of their PS5 consoles, such as kitchen appliances and cat food, or just empty boxes.

In a statement to VGC, an Amazon UK spokesperson said the company is investigating what happened to the orders.

“Our goal is to make our customers happy, and that hasn’t happened for a small portion of these orders,” they said. “We are very sorry about this and are investigating exactly what happened. We contact all customers who had a problem and let them know so that we can fix it. “

Walker told Eurogamer that Amazon initially gave him a £ 5 gift voucher, which was later increased to £ 50. He then reimbursed Walker for the PS5 despite his attempts to decline a refund in the hopes that Amazon would offer him a replacement instead.

“I am furious beyond words,” she told The Oxford Mail. “I fully appreciate that this is a first global problem and given that we are in a global pandemic, it is not the most important test to face, but that it happens on the day of my son’s birthday seems incredibly cruel.

In a statement on Wednesday, Sony suggested the PS5 had benefited from the biggest console launch in history and promised that more stock of consoles would go on sale before the end of the year.
