Amazon faces backlash after New World region move U-turn • Eurogamer.net

Amazon has decided to let New World players transfer their characters to a server in a different region.

Last week, following the explosive launch of New World, Amazon asked gamers to join servers with low latencies as it worked to increase population caps for existing servers.

To reassure those who wanted to play with their friends already on high-population servers, Amazon said it was working on a feature that would allow you to transfer your character to a new server for free.

“So if you pick one [a low wait time server] now just to get up and play, you can make a different choice later to play on a server with your friends, ”Amazon said at the time.

“We know how important it is to be able to play with friends, so we put this feature high on our priority list.”

Next, New World’s official Twitter account said that players could move between regions, such as switching from a US server to a European server. This tweet is still online, at the time of publication of this article.

And so, with enough reassurance, players chose just about any server they could join – even those from another region – in an effort to avoid the incredibly long wait times of the New World. Why not, when we told them it would be nice to do it?

Fast forward to yesterday, October 8, and Amazon’s confirmation that the server transfer feature has been postponed until next week after a problem was discovered during testing. That’s not a big deal – better to wait for the feature to launch in solid state than to release it early and broken.

But with this delay announcement came the confirmation that when the feature launches you will be limited to transferring your character to any world in your region only.

“So the ‘transfer to any server’ statement made earlier was not true? Amazon asked itself in an FAQ forum post.

“Unfortunately, the original information provided was incorrect,” Amazon said.

Some players who have chosen an unpopular server in a region outside of the one their friends have played on have now said they feel stuck – and have complained about wasting their time.

“My group of friends is divided into regions because they told us we can move from one world to another and the lines were ridiculous the first two days, so we decided to meet later, “redditor seektankkill said.

“It’s frustrating, it just adds to an already frustrating list of things. Nobody wants to remake their character, it will be a one-way ticket to exhaustion.”

“A friend of mine went from the early 20s to level 40 thinking he would be able to transfer to the region we’re all in and now he’s likely just going to quit the game,” said the editor Otterable.

“I wasted 80 hours,” editor TheMostRev said.

“We need region transfers,” said Kel1975, New World forum user.

“A lot of players from the EU have gone to the eastern US so they can even play on day one. We may not have to stay there. The regions have to be part of the transfer.”

“Yes, the double return here is really unfortunate,” said Dimeman, New World forum user.

“I spent the first week of launch playing more or less from sunrise to sunset, accumulating about 100 hours. No way I will restart because of a misstep on their part. I liked the idea. of some type of repair in the form of double xp, but it’s more like a dressing solution to a wound that required stitches. “

“We understand the frustration that results, unfortunately the original message provided was incorrect,” said community manager TrevzorFTW.

There are other server transfer restrictions in place. You cannot move your character to a complete world, and you cannot move your character to a world in which you already have an existing character.

New World players who find themselves stuck in a different region than their friends are now faced with a tough decision – to stick with the character they’ve upgraded but can’t use to play with their friends. , or start all over with a character on the server their friends are on – assuming it’s not full.
