Amazon is preparing to abandon its counter to Apple's AirPods, reports Bloomberg, via a set of wireless headphones with integrated Alexa features.
According to the report, Amazon plans to market these headphones in the second half of the year, as the company seeks to create something similar to the AirPods in terms of look and functionality, but with better audio quality.
As for the home appliances of Amazon, the headphones can be activated by saying "Alexa", after which the user can issue voice commands to access music, weather information, order products via Amazon, etc. Headsets would also be expected to respond to gestural commands, such as selecting songs or making phone calls in association with a phone, even though Amazon has not made any official comment.
The Bloomberg report states that the earphones have been tested in black and gray colors and will be delivered in a case that also serves as a charger, which is plugged in via a standard USB cable.
AirPods cost between $ 159 and $ 199. No pricing details are available for Amazon's competing product, but as Bloomberg notes, Amazon tends to offer hardware at lower prices than its competitors.
