Amazon listing says ‘Halo Infinite’ won’t release for another full year [Update]

Update: The list has now been edited to remove the date from the first line, and it has been placed at the end where it simply says “Coming in 2021” now. No comment yet on whether this was a listing error (most likely).

The original article follows, and I think it’s worth discussing whether a one-year delay is possible / probably / smart:

I thought it was a little odd that Microsoft didn’t give any sort of deadline when it delayed Halo Infinite until 2021, given that it was the most prestigious version of the system and everything the world obviously wants to know when they can play it, if not just when the Xbox Series X launches.

Today it was pointed out to me that the official Xbox Series X page on Amazon lists the Halo Infinite release date of not just 2021, but Holiday 2021, which implies that it’s quite a yearworth a delay.

A few things are possible here.

That may not be correct, and this is the Amazon page being rewritten to say Vacation 2021 instead of Vacation 2020 without someone removing the “Vacation”. A few regions previously had the Xbox Series X release date on that same page listed as “Thanksgiving,” which was later changed.

Of course, the other option is that it’s true, and Amazon jumped the gun on an ad.

I can see both sides of that being a possible time window for the actual arrival of Halo Infinite.

On the one hand, a one-year lead time seems incredibly long for a game that many thought would release in just over two months. Microsoft really, really wants to get a system vendor on Xbox Series X ASAP, hence why it was originally a launch title. Delay a The whole year seems almost unthinkable.

On the flip side, we’ve heard plenty of stories, some of which pushed back 343, about Halo Infinite’s troubled development, and of course, we’ve got the recently revealed game itself which has been widely criticized as looking unfinished. So yes, maybe Is need an additional year. A 2021 holiday release date would also be a prime time for this, given that Microsoft obviously wants to lean into the Christmas sales window when it would help them the most. There’s a reason almost all of the larger versions at least try to shoot for this window (although many are delayed until spring). And then there is the fact that Microsoft has yet to give a specific 2021 window, while a game like Deathloop, also delayed, at least said Q2 2021 when it announced its delay.

Since this Amazon page has proven to be problematic for X series news before, I lean towards it being a placeholder issue with text rather than leaking an actual calendar . The official Xbox Series X page for Microsoft doesn’t have that date anywhere (or 2021 at all) in the Halo section.

We’ll see if 343 or Microsoft can clear that up, but no, I don’t think it’s totally out of the question that Halo Infinite will be pushed back for another year, although I’m leaning to be somewhat unlikely. More soon.
