In addition to the grocery store, the store will offer ready-to-eat meals and snacks, including local pastries and vendors Dominique Ansel, Magnolia Bakery, Ess-a-Bagel, Epicure, Well Cooked, Hale & Hearty and Terranova Bakery. Amazon lunch kits, freshly brewed coffee and an espresso will also be on sale, following the launch of the cafe at a Go store in Seattle.
Amazon Go could be the future of retail in the supermarket, but the cashless nature of the stores was controversial. Critics complained of discriminating against people without access to credit or debit cards. Philadelphia has even passed legislation banning cashless companies, and other states are considering doing the same.
Amazon sold and accepted in April that Go stores accept cash payments, with Vesey Street in New York becoming the first to do so. The newly opened store will accept cash, as will all future Go stores.
