As if figuring out where to buy a PS5 wasn’t tricky enough with so little stock, some UK buyers of Sony’s next-gen console found themselves in a situation where their consoles never came.
Various Amazon UK customers have received shipments of random items, including cat food, while others have received nothing at all. To compensate for them, Amazon has now announced that affected customers can reorder the console by contacting customer service.
Initially, Amazon either refunded customers who had not received their PS5 or offered them various amounts of credit to make up for it. Under normal circumstances that wouldn’t be so bad, but given how difficult it was to get a PS5, a lot of people weren’t happy. Obviously, affected customers wanted the console without having to join the battle against bots (and other humans) to get one.
Amazon had hinted that it would be possible to get a new customer service console at the time, but that has now been confirmed. This is great news for those who have had their PS5s stolen on their way home, although the best part is they should be able to receive a replacement within 14 days of ordering. Provided the PS5s don’t mysteriously disappear again.
While you might think it would be easier to send new consoles automatically, there are other factors to consider. The first is that the refunds have already been processed and Amazon needs the customer’s permission before billing them again.
Sadly, UK customers aren’t the only ones dealing with lost or stolen PS5s. Various articles from Reddit and Twitter confirm that customers in the United States and Canada have seen consoles fail to materialize after being marked as delivered.
It didn’t just affect Amazon customers, either. There appears to be a strangely high number of posts on Reddit mentioning that FedEx has lost PS5s in transit while accusing the delivery service of not caring enough to investigate.
FedEx is definitely responsible for those PS5 and Xbox lost / stolen by r / FedEx
While we can’t see any reports of customers receiving air fryers (which have terrible graphics by the way) like the person in the tweet below, the missing PS5 consoles issue is clearly a widespread issue, made worse by the extreme demand.
We’re here to help you make getting a next-gen gaming console a little easier with our where to buy the PS5 article. Check this out when we track retailers who have new PS5 inventory arriving sporadically.
Have a good day # PS5 everyone. Tried to document our reveal, but Amazon tricked us with an unsolicited air fryer instead (after giving the delivery password). Anyone else had this problem today? pic.twitter.com/99IUSzSJUUNovember 19, 2020
Unfortunately, Amazon UK will only honor this pledge if customers confirm they want a PS5 by the end of the day on December 5th. Amazon customers in other regions should be able to request the same as well, as it is one large company.
As for those who have purchased from other retailers, your best bet is to keep harassing customer service and hope they get an organized replacement. We suggest you do this ASAP and pray that your PS5 actually arrives this time.
Amazon UK’s investigation of the incidents is still ongoing.
