Amazon.com Inc. has said it will delay the return of company employees until next year as conditions around the Covid-19 pandemic evolve.
The company is adding to the wave of companies adjusting their return-to-work plans as the highly transmissible Delta variant of the virus leads to an increase in coronavirus cases.
Amazon said on Thursday it was pushing back its return to its offices to at least January 3, 2022. The online retail giant had previously targeted resuming regular office work in early September. The ruling affects office workers in the United States and other countries. The Seattle Times previously reported on Amazon’s change of plan.
“We will continue to follow local government guidelines and work closely with leading healthcare professionals, collecting their advice and recommendations as we move forward to ensure our workspaces are optimized for the safety of our teams. “Amazon said.
San Francisco-based Wells Fargo & Co. said Thursday it was delaying the phased return of its offices to October 4, citing the increase in Covid-19 cases in the United States. The guidelines do not affect employees already working in person and certain others.
