Amazon removes vulgar anti-Biden and Harris shirts

On Tuesday, Twitter users began drawing attention to shirts with different versions of the phrase “Joe and the Ho,” referring to the Democratic presidential and vice-president candidates, to the former vice president. President Biden and US Senator Harris.
Several of these shirts were still listed on the site Wednesday morning, but the product links are no longer active. Wednesday, around 12:30 p.m. ET, a Amazon (AMZN) The spokesperson said the products had all been removed for violating sales guidelines.

“All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action, including the potential deletion of their account,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “These products have been deleted.”

In addition to selling its own products on its website, Amazon also acts as a marketplace where independent third-party sellers can list items.

Demetria Edwards, an Arkansas attorney, emailed Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on Tuesday asking for the products to be withdrawn. Edwards, who shared the email with CNN Business, called the articles “racist, sexist and offensive merchandise” and a “reprehensible attempt to belittle, belittle, belittle and degrade” Biden and Harris. Edwards said she had not received a direct response from Amazon and it was not clear whether Edwards’ letter led to the products being recalled.

This is not the first time that Amazon has had to remove inappropriate products. Earlier this month, Amazon withdrew shoes for sale by a third-party seller who presented a racial slur from their website after being questioned by a UK lawmaker. And in March, Amazon said it removed more than a million products from its site for price gouging or bogus advertising during the pandemic.
