Amazon on Wednesday offered to help with the nationwide effort to distribute the Covid-19 vaccine, according to a letter to President Joe Biden, which was obtained by CNBC.
“As you begin your work to pull the country out of the Covid-19 crisis, Amazon stands ready to help you reach your goal of vaccinating 100 million Americans in the first 100 days of your administration,” Dave Clark , CEO of Amazon Global Consumer Business, writes in the letter, which was first reported by Reuters.
Clark said Amazon is ready to leverage its operations, information technology, communications capabilities and expertise to “aid your administration’s immunization efforts.” He added that Amazon has made an agreement with a third-party health care provider to administer vaccines on-site at the company’s warehouses.
The letter comes as Amazon was arguing over its frontline workers to have priority access to the Covid-19 vaccine. Clark wrote to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention panel last month asking that frontline employees at the company “receive the Covid-19 vaccine as soon as possible.” Clark also pointed out that Amazon’s frontline workers have played a vital role in helping consumers get needed products delivered to their homes during the coronavirus pandemic.
