Amazon.com Inc was slapped on Thursday in a class action lawsuit accusing the e-commerce giant of inflating e-book prices in collusion with certain publishers.

The lawsuit alleges that Amazon and the five largest US publishers, collectively referred to as the “ Big Five, ” agreed to price restrictions that cause consumers to overpay for eBooks purchased from them through a platform. retail sale other than Amazon.com.

The lawsuit comes a day after Connecticut said it was investigating Amazon for potential anti-competitive behavior at its e-book sales business.

Amazon declined to comment.
About 90 percent of e-books are sold through Amazon, the largest e-book seller in the United States, according to the lawsuit.

The law firm Hagens Berman, which brought the case, filed a similar lawsuit against Apple Inc and the “Big Five” in 2011 over e-book prices.
