Amazon’s New World MMO is out now, but servers are struggling

Finally, Amazon’s New World MMO was launched. After several delays and two rather popular betas, people can now hop on the supernatural island of Aeternum and stay there for as long as they want. EU servers are already online, the rest of the world will follow throughout the day. Be careful if you jump in this morning as some players report long wait times while others struggle to get into the queue in the first place.

New World is a fairly heavy MMORPG in PvP, but it contains a lot of quests for PvE enthusiasts. I played a bit during one of the beta weekends and surprised myself how much I enjoyed it. I’m not usually an MMO fan, but this one features fun and active hack and slash fights, and a good crafting to boot. In his preview of New World, Ed said he has as much in common with Valheim as he does with World Of Warcraft, and I agree.

EU servers went online this morning at 7am BST (8am CEST), with other regions expected to come online in the next few hours. Here are the timetables:

  • South American Servers – 8am BRT
  • Australian servers – 9 p.m. AEST
  • NA East Coast Server – 8am ET
  • NA West Coast Servers – 8am PT

You could wait a bit before entering the New World. Most of the forums on the forum have threads created by frustrated gamers waiting in long queues, and a few of my friends couldn’t stand in line at all, the game sending them back to the menu. The developers briefly took a few worlds offline this morning to resolve the stability issues, although it is unclear at this time whether these issues have been resolved.

As for other startup bugs, some players are reporting that New World is not logging their clicks to interact with the world. Some say they had to restart their games to fix this, which unfortunately puts them in another queue.

It should be noted that server issues and long wait times are quite common for big game releases. There is a lot of demand right now, and hopefully things start to clear up as the day goes on.

If you manage to get into the game this morning, we have plenty of guides to get you started. We can walk you through how to level up quickly in New World and give you some general tips and tricks for beginners.

At the very least, the popularity of New World suggests that Amazon may finally have a successful game in its hands. They’ve been cursed with cancellations so far, dropping a Lord Of The Rings MMO, unleashing and then quickly releasing their Crucible hero shooter, and killing their MOBA Breakaway before it sees the light of day. Good luck, New World.
