Amber Heard enjoyed a night at the theater on Sunday, after her ex-husband Johnny Depp was cleared by a court to bring a $ 50 million libel action against the actress.

Despite the ongoing drama, the Aquaman actress, 35, seemed in good spirits as she prepared to watch 2:22 A Ghost Story, starring Lily Allen, at the Noel Coward Theater in London’s West End.

The Texas-born beauty posed outside the theater in a black blazer with gold buttons and dark pants in an Instagram post captioned: “What a great feeling to be back in a theater”, complete with an emoji performing arts of Greek masks.

Heard was seen days after a Virginia judge ruled on Tuesday that Depp could continue with the litigation, based on a 2018 Washington Post editorial she wrote saying she was a survivor of the violence domesticated.

She didn’t mention Depp in the story, although she publicly accused him of abusing her during their separation in 2016.

Depp, 58, is trying to clear his name after losing a libel lawsuit against The Sun after the newspaper called him a “woman beater” amid allegations of domestic violence.

Depp’s lawsuit, filed in Fairfax County, Virginia, accuses Heard of having created a “hoax” account; Heard had asked that the libel action against her, filed in March 2019, be dismissed, saying the ruling in the UK case should tip any new cases in her favor, as they both involve allegations of domestic violence against Depp.

But Judge Penny Azcarate ruled that the statements made by The Sun and Heard were “inherently different.”

The ruling read: “The Sun’s interests hinged on whether the statements published by the newspaper were false. [Heard’s] the interest centers on whether the statements she published were false.

The ruling also noted that Depp had filed a libel suit against The Sun before the publication of Heard’s editorial – and that she had not been named in the case against the UK newspaper.

In the December 2018 editorial, Heard wrote: “I became a public figure representing domestic violence and felt the full force of our culture’s anger for women speaking out.”

The UK High Court ruled against Depp following an explosive three-week trial last July, ruling that the allegations that the actor was a “female drummer” were “essentially true”.

The judge ruled that Depp had assaulted Heard on a dozen occasions and put her in “the fear of her life” three times while she was using alcohol and drugs, which he said , had turned the actor into a “monster” in one of the most prestigious defamation clashes in recent years.

Lawyers for the Pirates of the Caribbean star had asked two judges of the Court of Appeals for leave to challenge the decision, with the aim of overturning his findings and ordering a second trial.

They claimed that the judge in Depp’s first defamation trial had not “factually” considered all the allegations of violence against him and that they had “new evidence” that Heard had “lied” by giving him the entire $ 7 million divorce settlement to charity.

They said the charity request influenced how his testimony was viewed, but the Court of Appeal ruled it had no impact on the judge and he would have come to the same conclusion on Heard being a victim of domestic violence.

Depp lost his role in Warner Bros. Fantastic Beasts following the High Court judgment, and damage to his reputation causes him to lose other roles in the future.
