In a console launch year that saw the debut of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, PC gamers still have a long way to go. Case in point: The next gen versions of Nvidia and AMD are great builds that give gamers a lot of choice and flexibility when it comes to outfitting their gaming PCs with the best gear possible.
However, while Nvidia has been sitting for some time as one of the most capable contenders in this field, things seem to be spinning a bit. AMD appears to be gaining ground over Nvidia with the simple act of overclocking in terms of improving performance that could outperform Nvidia’s GPU lineup.
Through a since-deleted tweet and a screenshot from Twitter user @OneRaichu, we learned that the Radeon RX 6800 XT has previously been demonstrated to have clock speeds above 2.5 GHz, which is well beyond its projected 2.25 GHz. Additionally, the power consumption was significantly lower than the board’s projected 300W specification.
6800XT is very good. It can OC at 2.5 + Ghz and perf close to 3090 …November 12, 2020
@OneRaichu brazenly asked users to ignore the image after deleting it, but those numbers are very close to what the Nvidia RTX 3090 is capable of. In fact, with stats like these, it wouldn’t be out of the question that the AMD card would become Nvidia’s best flagship when put to the test.
This isn’t the first leak we’ve seen that indicates how the RX 6800 might end up beating additional cards, such as the RTX 3070. A previous note Twitter user @PJ_Lab_UH showed that the RX 6800 served a score of 16,775 in the 3DMark TimeSpy benchmark, which ended up beating the RTX 3070 in a big way.

The leaked image shows the RX 6800 being tested on a machine using an AMD Ryzen 5 3500X. This means that the RX 6800 is also able to outperform the RTX 3070 in a number of ways, although it is a much cheaper and affordable card at just $ 499. It’s still a bit early to see exactly how things stack up between the two brands, but the first leaks seem to indicate easy competition.
The battle for supremacy between AMD and Nvidia appears to be heating up to an entirely healthy temperature. It’s an exciting thing to see, especially for PC gamers craving for choices. Sure, we have to take the leaks with a grain of salt at first, but that dynamic just might change the way things play out for those PCs that build. We’ll know more when the AMD GPU hits the market.
