According to VideoCardz.com via Cowcotland, AMD's flagship graphics processor, Radeon VII, may soon be at the end of its life.
The current stock will remain in stores for sale, however, an additional stock will no longer be manufactured. We looked at Radeon VII and the new editorial director, Joseph Bradford, said "Radeon VII was a little too expensive when you consider the tracing of the RTX 2080 material rays at the same price."
Compared to the recently released AMD Navi cards, the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT, the Radeon VII is simply too power hungry, partly because of the use of HBM2 memory compared to the GDDR6 memory of Navi cards.
If that's true, this report opens the door to replacing the Radeon VII with these annoying rumors of Navi 20, AMD that could potentially include hardware acceleration for ray tracing.
