This national rollout would essentially double the number of restaurants that Impossible works with. Burger King had approximately 7,300 establishments across the country at the end of last year. Currently, Impossible provides its products to about 7,000 restaurants.
In addition, demand for Impossible products at these 7,000 locations has more than doubled, said Impossible Foods CFO David Lee at CNN Business.
The company also said that it was stifled by the growth of "all sales categories where Impossible Foods operated," including small restaurants, other chains, such as White Castle, and attractions like amusement parks and university campuses.
In a statement, Impossible said that she "recognized the inconvenience caused by this shortage and offered a sincere apology to all customers, especially those who now depended on the extra traffic and revenue generated by Impossible Burger."
Impossible added that there was no lack of ingredients for the manufacture of herbal meat. "We are facing short-term ramp-up problems resulting from a demand far superior to the supply," he said.
To meet the demand, Impossible increases the hours of operation at its Oakland, California plant. It's also hiring for a planned third quarter. And he is installing a second production line which, according to the company, "should double the current capacity".
Lee said confidently that "Impossible will be able to respond to the request. The company "spares no expense" to follow, Lee told CNN Business. "We will absolutely continue to raise funds."
Until the shortage is resolved, Impossible encourages her fans to call to find out if their restaurant has meat in stock.
