UPDATE AT 1:17 PM PT – Saturday October 2, 2021
More and more major US airlines have issued new warrants for their employees to be vaccinated. Reports released Friday said American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue each announced new vaccine requirements while citing the Biden administration’s requirements for companies with contracts with the government to vaccinate their employees.
Unlike companies not part of government agreements, the White House has said employees of government contractors are required to get vaccinated without the possibility of regular testing or the use of masks. Airlines fall under this order because they have several agreements for flights and government services.
“Due to several of our agreements, including the City Pair program, the Civil Reserve Air Fleet program, and our Department of Defense freight contracts, American is classified as a government contractor,” said the general manager of American. Airlines, Doug Parker, in a released statement. “… Clearly, team members who choose not to be vaccinated will not be able to work at American Airlines. “
