A photo finish left the Group A finalists lost in the water after a breathless race, excited and confused faces looking for final results after all eight kayakers finished their competition. When the smoke cleared, Hungary Sandor Totka emerged victorious with a time of 35.035. Italy Manfredi Rizza took the silver with 35.080, and Great Britain Liam heath – the Rio 2016 gold medalist who crushed the quarter-finals yesterday (with a faster time of 33.985 seconds) – won his second bronze medal in the kayak with 35.202, after finishing third in the event of the K-2 200m in London 2012.

Unfortunately, this discipline will not make its appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

A new American champion in (above?) The water!

Team USA’s Nevin Harrison, 19, the youngest final competitor from Seattle, won the first-ever women’s C-1 200m clocking 45.932, the only one to finish in under 46 seconds. 2019 World Championships gold medalist won by more than one nose, beating Canada’s silver medalist Laurence Vincent-Lapointe and Ukrainian bronze medalist Liudmyla Luzan.

After his emotional victory, Harrison in tears embraced his coaches. “You stupid! One of his teammates said, making him laugh. “An Olympic champion!”
