2020 was a year without american horror story thanks to production blocked by COVID. But instead of one American horror story, 2021 will bring us two! Although, according to Ryan Murphy, given that the 10th season of the show is structured with two distinct storylines – “one by the sea, one by the sand” – it could actually be three stories from American horror.

But before season 10, titled American Horror Story: Double functionality, starts on August 25, a new spin-off called American Horror Stories will be released in July.

What makes this show different? Well, every season of american horror story follows a different set of characters in a different horror storyline. While some characters reappear and one season has been a massive crossover, for the most part each is a standalone storyline. But in American Horror Stories, the concept goes even further: each episode will be autonomous, which will make it an anthology series of an anthology series. Meta.

The first trailer shows spooky demons, an evil Satan, and a lot of other things jostling each other through the night! Are these all the half-fleshed out ideas that couldn’t stand a full season now thrown on a rapid fire? Perhaps. Does not seem to AHS: Christmas would have done an entire season.

American Horror Stories premieres on FX on Hulu on July 15.
