Many Americans who say they’ve been fired for ignoring their employers’ vaccination mandates turn to GoFundMe for help, but don’t regret it.

President Joe Biden announced in September a broad vaccination mandate that would require anyone working for companies with more than 100 employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or be tested weekly.

Although the rules have not yet been finalized or implemented, many employers imposed mandates earlier. In some places, like Maine and California, state-level mandates have been active for weeks.

As a result, thousands of people have lost their jobs, from healthcare workers to airline staff. Those who believe the move was necessary to boost immunization rates have praised the mandate, while others have called it authoritarian taxation.

But ignoring immunization mandates has left many people with no income. Insider has identified more than two dozen GoFundMe pages created by people asking for financial help to pay their bills or take legal action against their former employers.

One of those seeking help is Stephanie Grandy, who worked as a registered nurse at Northern Light AR Gould Hospital in Maine until her contract was terminated on August 31. Insider checked Grandy’s work history and the hospital did not respond to Insider’s request for comment. for this story.

Grandy, a practicing Messianic Jew, told Insider that she refused the vaccine on religious and ethical grounds: “The Lord specifically told me not to shoot,” she said.

“Then we learned that they were using aborted fetal cell lines in drug research and development. We believe abortion is murder. It would be a sin to bring these drugs into our bodies.”

Fetal cell lines – cells cultured using DNA from aborted fetuses – have been used in the development of several mRNA vaccines and in the production of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. As a result, many pro-life groups have avoided the vaccine. The United States-based Messianic Jewish Rabbinical Council encourages followers to get vaccinated and notes that “not all vaccines are made from fetal cell lines.”

While working at the Northern Light AR Gould Hospital, Grandy had requested a religious exemption under Maine law, but Governor Janet Mills removed that exemption last month.

“Basically you have to get the shot, no exemptions,” Grandy said of the new policy.

But she said she did not regret the decision and said many of her colleagues only received the vaccine to keep their jobs.

“Nurses, CNAs [certified nursing assistants], the housekeeping and diet staff I worked with didn’t want to take the picture, but most were forced to because there is literally no other place to work here ”, she declared.

The insider was unable to independently verify this claim and contacted Northern Light AR Gould for comment.

Other people seeking help on GoFundMe include Kaimi Pelekai, who said he was fired as the Honolulu fire captain after refusing to get a shot. The ministry did not respond to Insider’s request for comment.
