Americans April Ross and Alix Klineman beat Australia to win Olympic gold in beach volleyball on Friday.
The team beat Australians Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy 21-15 and 21-16 in scorching 92-degree heat at Tokyo’s Shiokaze Park.
First-time Olympian Klineman and Ross, who won three medals in as many trips to the Summer Games, needed just 20 minutes to win the first set. They fell 2-0 in the second before scoring 10 straight points to walk away.
Ross and Klineman are both from California.
“Aussie! Australian! Australian! Oi! Oi! Oi!” the chants soon gave way to “USA!” while Artacho del Solar served in the net to seal the American victory.

Ross won a silver medal in London 2012 and a bronze medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
In total, the Americans have lost just one set in seven matches in Tokyo.
Australia won silver, the country’s first medal since the Sydney Olympics in 2000, when Natalie Cook and Kerri Pottharst won gold at Bondi Beach.

In the bronze medal match earlier on Friday, Switzerland’s Joana Heidrich and Anouk Verge-Depre claimed a straight-set victory over Latvia.
