Amick: Kings refused to include Fox and Haliburton in Simmons deal

The Sacramento Kings have never been in the running to land Ben Simmons after refusing to part ways with two players, writes The Athletic’s Sam Amick.

The report suggests that although kings have been discussed as in contention for the disgruntled Philadelphia 76ers star, they were determined not to include guards De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton in any deal.

According to a source with knowledge of their situation, the Kings spoke to the Sixers a few weeks ago and made it clear that neither De’Aaron Fox nor Tyrese Haliburton would be included in a possible deal with Simmons. That position, the source said, has not and will not change and the internal expectation is that the core of their roster will remain the same until training camp later this month. There is currently no conversation between the two teams and, barring a drastic change in requests, it looks like the Kings are an unlikely landing place for Simmons.

Amick suggests that the Kings’ offer would have been based on Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley III.
