Amy Schumer has revealed that she is recovering from surgery after her uterus and appendix were removed.

In a Instagram post shared Sunday, the actress posed in her hospital gown next to the caption, “If you have a really painful period, you might have #endometriosis. The next slide included a video filmed by her husband, Chris Fischer, from his hospital bed. “It’s the morning after my operation for endometriosis and my uterus has come out,” she explained. “The doctor found 30 endometriosis points which he removed. He removed my appendix because endometriosis had attacked him.

She continued, “There was a lot of blood in my uterus, and it hurts and pain with gas, but other than that I already feel my energy -” before the video cut. In a follow-up clip on Monday, Schumer added, “I feel really hopeful and I’m really glad I did. I think it will change my life, so this is the update.

She then showed her bedside table, which included water and other drinks. “I’ll try to share this story at some point to raise awareness because so many people don’t even know the word endometriosis,” she said. “It’s like 1 in 10 women have it. It’s really painful and debilitating, and you don’t have to live with it. When I receive a useful female treat, I like to pass it on to my sisters. I have a catheter, so I’ll see you later.
