An 11-year-old girl accused of the death of her baby while she was babysitting

PRINCE COUNTY GEORGE, Maryland – An 11-year-old girl was charged with the death of a child she was guarding.

According to the Prince George County Police Department, the victim, identified as Paxton Davis, one year old, was handed over to 11-year-old adult family members at their home on Saturday night.

The girl's mother left the girl and baby alone on Sunday morning to run a race, and when she returned, police said the 11-year-old admitted to assaulting the baby.

"It was clear from the start that Paxton's injuries were not consistent with the normal play of a 1-year-old child," said Major Brian Reilly, commander of the Criminal Investigations Division.

Police said that they were called home around 3:25 pm. Sunday for the report of a wounded baby, and found him suffering serious injuries to the upper part of his body. He died on Thursday, February 28th.

The 11-year-old is accused of first-degree abuse, the police said. She was incarcerated in a juvenile facility.

Police said that the girl and the baby were not related to each other. The police are still investigating a motive.
