Authorities say that a plane blew up tires while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport, causing it to skid on the runway before getting stuck.

United Airlines said the 627 flight from Denver was landing at 1 pm Saturday (local time) with 166 passengers when the tires burst.

United spokesman Robert Einhorn said the plane was still on the runway. The FAA first indicated that it had slipped off the sidewalk, but that it then "swung to the left side of the sidewalk".

The airline said slightly injured passengers refused to see a doctor and no one was seriously injured.

The airport said it had resumed flights shortly before 3 pm but expected delays.

He later stated that it was operating "limited capacity" after the National Transportation Safety Bureau had stated that the plane should not be moved before the arrival of the investigators.
