A bill in Alabama banning almost all abortions in the state was passed Tuesday by the House of Representatives, with only three MPs voting against the measure.
The state's representative, Terri Collins (R), who sponsored the measure, said the bill was aimed at going to the Supreme Court and challenging Roe V. Wade, currently the law from the country that makes legal abortion.
When it was passed, the bill would criminalize abortions in all cases unless the health of the pregnant woman was in danger and would make it a class C crime allowing a doctor to perform the procedure, according to Al.com.
The bill also provides no exception in cases where rape or incest has caused the pregnancy. The measure was adopted by 74 votes to 3.
While several Democratic lawmakers tried to make amendments to the bill, including the addition of an exception for rape or incest, Collins said none would be accepted because she wanted the bill of law overthrows Roe V. Wade.
