EL PASO – An American Airlines plane bound for Chicago made two separate emergency landings Monday afternoon at El Paso International Airport.

Flight 3880 returned to El Paso for the second time around 1600 hours, shortly after the maintenance crews allowed it to depart after what was described as a false indication of a mechanical problem.

The Embraer E-175 aircraft carrying 76 passengers and a crew of four took off for the first time from El Paso to Chicago around 1 pm. He then had a safe emergency landing around 14:30. after returning home and then circling the airport for at least half an hour to burn fuel.

Once on the ground, the aircraft baffled was examined by maintenance officers. A spokesman for the airline told KVIA.com that what we thought was "a possible mechanical problem" had been revealed to be a "false indicator". "The problem being solved," the spokesman said the plane would return to Chicago.

He took off again around 4pm, but was only in the air for about four minutes before being hijacked for a second emergency landing, according to the FlightAware Air Traffic Monitoring Company .

"Our maintenance team will re-evaluate the plane and all passengers will be assigned a new reservation on alternate flights to Chicago or their destination," the airline said in an email to KVIA.com after the second emergency landing. "We never want to disrupt our clients' travel plans and we apologize for the two misappropriations."

American Airlines then announced that a third flight had taken off from El Paso around 18:30. and arrived successfully in Chicago just before 10:30 am local time.
