An American gymnast tested positive for Covid-19 before the Tokyo Olympics

The teenage gymnast tested positive on Sunday and the result was confirmed on Monday, Inzai city official Takamitsu Ooura said.

The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee has confirmed that a replacement for the women’s artistic gymnastics team has tested positive. The athlete was transferred to a hotel for quarantine.

The teenage gymnast is staying in Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan for pre-camp ahead of the Tokyo Olympics which begin on Friday.

The Ariake Gymnastics Center is a scheduled venue for artistic, rhythmic and trampoline gymnastics events during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The gymnast shows no symptoms and is quarantined in her hotel room while waiting for the public health center to decide whether or not to hospitalize her.

A gymnast has been identified as a close contact of the gymnast who tested positive.

Tokyo 2020 reported on Monday that there were 58 cases of Covid-19 linked to the Olympics.
