Florida inspectors said that DNA had helped them commit a brutal rape committed 36 years ago, which was recently reopened after the victim went to remind them that his case had not happened. still not resolved.

Police in Coral Springs announced Friday that the woman was raped in her bed on August 22, 1983 after being woken in the middle of the night by an armed foreigner who had entered her home through a back door.

The woman contacted detectives in March after seeing social media accounts reporting that Coral Springs police had used DNA to arrest a 59-year-old Frank Montana man for a 1987 rape by a man wearing a ski mask. His clothes and other evidence were then re-examined and sent to the Broward County Crime Lab for treatment using DNA technology that did not exist at the time of the rape, police said. .

"On June 27, 2019, detectives learned that a sample of the victim's clothing contained a DNA profile belonging to Timothy Norris," said police spokesman Tyler Reik.

The detectives discovered that Norris's current residence, at the age of 60, was a federal prison in West Virginia where he was serving a sentence for armed robbery.
