In the interior video of Fair Oaks Farms, Indiana's largest dairy producer, employees appear to be kicking, pushing and slamming newborn calves to the ground.

Edgar Gardozo-Vasquez, 36, of Brook, Indiana, was arrested on charges of cruelty to animals, a crime, and having tortured or mutilated a vertebrate animal, a crime. The sheriff's office says that there are still warrants for arrest against two other suspects in this case, Santiago Ruvalcaba Contreros and Miguel Angel Navarro Serrano.

The graphic sequence comes from an animal recovery mission (ARM) investigator who found employment with calves at Fair Oaks Farms. Following the broadcast of the video, the Newton County Sheriff's Office launched an independent investigation into allegations of animal cruelty.

Gardozo-Vasquez is currently detained at the Newton County Jail and is under the control of the Immigration Customs Service, according to the Sheriff's Office.

CNN attempted to solicit Gardozo-Vasquez's observations, but it was unclear whether he had a lawyer.

Mike McCloskey, founder of Fair Oaks Farms, said last week that five employees were responsible for several acts of cruelty to animals. Four were Fair Oaks employees, and they were all fired, McCloskey said.

"I am disgusted and take full responsibility for the actions presented in the film, as this goes against everything we stand for in the care and comfort of cows," wrote McCloskey in a statement. a Facebook message. "The employees featured in the video have shown total disregard for the documented training followed by all employees to ensure the comfort, safety and welfare of our animals."

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office and the Indiana State Police are assisting the Newton County Sheriff's Office in their ongoing investigation.
