An explosion in Murietta's home makes 1 victim and 15 wounded

Southern California Gas crews were at home repairing a natural gas line that was damaged by a contractor working on the house. The explosion occurred about an hour after the arrival of the crew and the fire department was already on the scene.

Fatality has been confirmed as an employee of SoCalGas. The 15 wounded are being treated.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the incident that occurred today that has cost the lives of one of our employees, injured firefighters, and affected others." said SoCalGas in a statement. "Our goal now is to work with first responders to make the area safe and to help everyone involved.We will continue to work with first responders to determine the cause of the accident."

Murrieta Deputy Fire and Rescue Chief, David Lantzen, could not provide details on the seriousness of the injuries of others during a scrum.

Roads in the area are closed and residents are kept out of the way, according to Murrieta police.

Murrieta is located about 70 miles north of San Diego.
