According to the California Highway Patrol, a box fell from the front seat of an unoccupied golf cart at the American opening, hitting the throttle and causing it to enter five people.

Two people were hospitalized after the accident.

The wreckage was discovered around 10:20 am Friday near the 16th fairway at the Pebble Beach Golf Links.

A salesman had loaded the basket of cartons to make the deliveries. At the 16th hole, he parked it and went away, CHP said.

A box on the front seat fell on the throttle and the trolley began to advance without anyone behind the steering wheel.

He met the vendor and four spectators, wounding them, according to the CHP. The seller removed the box and the cart stopped.

Two people were taken to the community hospital on the Monterey Peninsula, CHP said.

In many golf carts, pressing the accelerator will automatically take it out of the park.

The officers did not reveal the names of the wounded, but their age and current city were revealed.

  • 58 year old man from Modesto

  • A 58 year old woman from Carmel

  • A 25-year-old man from the Highlands, Texas
