An overview of the new Steam UI may have leaked

June 9, 2019 Tyler McVicker has created a video that takes a closer look at the features of the original Steam client.

Ahh, Steam: Always up to date, but never really change, at least not your appearance. Well, this might be about to change, as an ongoing version of a refitted Steam interface was accidentally leaked by an update of the Chinese Counter-Strike Launcher: Global Offensive.

SteamDB posted screenshots the new look possible for Steam. And, although it's definitely Steam, the refitted user interface looks smoother and more modern than we've been used to since the last major update, years ago.

The navigation bar at the top has remained virtually unchanged, with options to switch to store, library, community and personal settings still present. But a screenshot shows a "Library Home" screen, which shows your collection of games based on recently updated games, the latest games you've played, and remains in alphabetical order below.

The library screens for the individual games in your collection have also changed. It now appears that the recommended content for the workshop is placed at the top of the page, with a wide right sidebar for downloadable content. There is also a notification that lets you know if a game has been updated since the last time you played it – which is very convenient. New updates subscribed are apparently gonebut you can still see community updates on the home screens of the games.

In the inventory screen, there is a nice little hover effect when you hover over a map to trade on Steam, as SteamDB shows here.

Tyler McVicker, who runs the Valve News Network YouTube channel, has downloaded the original client and looked at it in more detail, which you can look at here:

All this looks nice, although there is no way to know for now if it is something Valve plans to launch soon, if there is will have significant changes in the design before that, or what could look like the full list of features.

It will be interesting to know if it will also be an option for registration, because as we know, people are more concerned with what things are like. It may be interesting to have the option to choose the new UI on arrival or restore it with a menu option. Valve being Valve, all you have to do is wait!
