Anderson Silva was not seriously injured in his loss to Jared Cannonier against UFC 237, sources told MMA Fighting on Tuesday.
The former middleweight champion of the UFC lost Saturday in the first round against UFC 237 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Immediately after the bout, Silva's team knew that he had not suffered a fracture, but feared that the kick had damaged his ligaments. However, an MRI showed that his ligaments were intact and that "The Spider" needed only physical therapy before returning to training.
Silva (34-10, 1 no-contest) has now lost six of his last eight bouts since 2013. He was victorious twice, defeating Derek Brunson and Nick Diaz by decision, but the victory over Diaz was then reversed at a no. -a competition after the two combatants have had a positive result in search of prohibited substances.
A day after the loss of UFC 237, Silva issued a statement on his social network suggesting that he would not hang up his gloves.
