Andrade says WWE diagnosed Charlotte as pregnant; Comments on the Flair camp

Earlier tonight (March 29), Andrade gave his first interview since WWE released him a week ago.

The former NXT and US champion had a lot to tell Hugo Savinovich on Lucha Libre Online’s Facebook, but the story that caused ripples tonight had to do with his fiancee Charlotte Flair. The company pulled Flair out of promotion for next month’s WrestleMania 37 event, and a day after Andrade’s exit, Charlotte announced she was off WWE TV after testing positive for COVID- 19.

According to Andrade, however, there is more to the story than that (translation by Carlos toro for Fightful):

“About two weeks ago, two things happened. When I asked for my release, it was on a Monday. The next day I had things with the company and had COVID and my girlfriend also tested positive. Nobody knows about it … about three weeks ago it was a wednesday afternoon like 7 or 8 p.m. they called her and it was the same doctor [who informed Andrade of the positive drug test that resulted in his 2020 WWE Wellness Policy suspension]. She was a little scared, asking, “What’s going on, what’s going on?” They told her she was pregnant.

“She was confused because we went to a pharmacy. We bought pregnancy tests and everything went negative. How can a doctor, supposedly one of the best, tell him that? This is the same doctor who said I tested positive. Was that also a lie? WWE didn’t do anything, no blood test to make sure. So it was up to us to go the next day and get tested to see if she was really pregnant. We did it ourselves. It was only after the fact that WWE offered to help. But they took her out of the story because “she wasn’t erased because she was pregnant.” Four days after more testing, WWE hasn’t said anything. They took her out of the intrigue.

To clarify that she is in fact not pregnant, Flair reps contacted Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT with the following statement:

“What is Manny [Andrade] said about the pregnancy test in today’s interview is true, but a significant amount of context is lost in the translation and we would like to clarify this as best we can.

“A few weeks ago, Charlotte got a call from WWE Medical Service telling her that her HCG levels had come back high and that she had been medically suspended for pregnancy.

“That day she had several home tests which all came back negative. A few days later, blood tests and an ultrasound confirmed that there had been no pregnancy.

“It was primarily a problem with COVID (it is currently medically clear).

“It gave her a lot of context, mainly how small a woman’s career window is. Men are able to work well until their 50s, while women are considered “older” even in their early 30s. For an athlete in her prime, those years mean everything.

“His problem was with the process and how the information was relayed as opposed to the information itself.”

Flair did not appear on Gross tonight, and at this point, it seems unlikely that she’ll be added to “Mania.” This picture will become clearer as we hear more about this story … and we will definitely hear more about this story.
