Andrew "Boz" Bosworth, vice president of Facebook for AR / VR, said Monday that the company plans to launch new versions of its video chat devices on the portal this fall.

"We will have much more than we will unveil later this fall, new form factors that we will deliver," said Bosworth, speaking on stage at the Code Code in Phoenix.

Facebook launched two versions of the portal in November. These devices allow users to chat via video with users of Facebook's Messenger and WhatsApp services.

"The reason we're doing this is because we think that a whole new generation of material will come out," Bosworth said. "The material arrives at home and we want to make sure that the human connection, the connection between two people, is a leading experience on this material."

When asked about the number of portal devices sold by Facebook, Bosworth declined to give an answer.
