Andrew Cuomo is suddenly concerned about New York’s problems days before Biden’s inauguration

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) is finally starting to recognize the problems in New York, especially New York, which he ignored while President Donald Trump was in office. Now that President-elect Joe Biden is set to be inaugurated, Cuomo is sounding the alarm bells on the rise in crime and the damaging results of coronavirus lockdowns.

Cuomo held a press conference on Friday where he finally addressed the increase in crime in the Big Apple, saying it “makes things worse in New York.” He then insisted that there cannot be “a strong economy if you do not master the problem of crime”.

Cuomo hasn’t talked much about crime in New York since he criticized New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and the New York City Police Department in June for failing to bring the Black Lives Matter riots under control.

“You have 38,000 people from the NYPD, it’s the largest police department in the United States of America,” Cuomo said at the time. “Use 38,000 people and protect property. Use the police, protect property and people. Watch the videos, it was a shame. “

Trump said Cuomo turned down his offer to use the National Guard to end the violent riots this summer. Cuomo responded by saying that it was de Blasio who turned down the National Guard, but that he could “move” the mayor and make the call himself, which he did not do.

Crime has increased massively in New York City since the summer riots. The increase is also being helped by New York’s so-called bail reform measures, which have allowed criminals to be released onto the streets with little or no bail. Crime was already on the rise in the city before the riots due to the bail reform. Fox News reported last March that, according to the NYPD, “in the first 58 days of 2020, 482 people who had previously been arrested for committing a crime such as theft or burglary were again arrested for having committed 846 additional crimes ”.

“Thirty-five percent, or 299, involved arrests in the seven main categories of crimes – murder, rape, robbery, criminal assault, burglary, robbery and major auto theft – nearly triple the number of these crimes committed in the same 58 days in 2019, ”added the point of sale.

Cuomo’s pivot to increasing crime in New York City follows his sudden exclamation that the lockdowns have hurt the New York State economy. On January 13, he tweeted: “We just can’t stay closed until the vaccine hits critical mass. The cost is too high. We will have nothing more to open. We need to reopen the economy, but we need to do it smart and safe. “

Cuomo and de Blasio instituted some of the toughest lockdowns in the country, but New York was still the second worst-hit state in the United States behind New Jersey. One of Cuomo’s policies resulted in thousands of unnecessary deaths in nursing homes. In March, the Cuomo Health Department demanded nursing homes, which contain the population most vulnerable to COVID-19, to accept patients positive for the coronavirus. The results were deadly and we still don’t know the extent of the damage.

Now that Biden is set to become president, Cuomo wants to clean up his state. It is not a coincidence.
