Golden State Warriors goalie Andrew Wiggins received the COVID-19 vaccine after the NBA denied him a religious exemption and he pushed back questions from reporters about it on media day.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr made the revelation Sunday after practice. The team was preparing to travel to Portland to play a pre-season game against the Trail Blazers. Wiggins will be eligible to play in all games and will not have to lose money for games missing on his vaccination status.

Wiggins’ media day was a bit controversial as it was littered with questions about his vaccine status.
“I’m just going to keep this all private for now.… Anything to do with my status, vaccination, I’m going to keep it personal, private,” he said, via Athleticism. “The back is definitely against the wall. I will continue to fight for what I believe in. What is right for one person is not right for the other and vice versa.”
According to the San Jose Mercury News, he would compare the criticism he received to questioning the parenthood of other people.

“Some people give up their beliefs to their children; some people let their children grow up and believe what they want to believe. We are two totally different people. What you think is not what I think; It’s not what you think, ”Wiggins said.
“I’ll say something when I’m ready. The only thing the media has done is making him bigger than he needs to be. I’ll say my side of everything when I’m ready.”
Wiggins has requested a religious exemption so he can bypass a San Francisco coronavirus vaccine requirement to play inside the team’s home arena. As a result, Wiggins would not be eligible to play at home at the Chase Center unless he gets the shot, according to ESPN.

“The NBA has reviewed and denied Andrew Wiggins’ request for a religious exemption from the San Francisco Department of Public Health order requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all participants aged 12 and over during major indoor events, ”the NBA said in a statement.

According to the Associated Press, more than 95% of players had received the coronavirus vaccine.
