Andrew Yang says that people should forgive Shane Gillis – the newest member of the 'SNL & # 39; – following his racist remarks about Asians … and, more importantly, in retaliation.
The presidential candidate – who is American-Taiwanese – announced Sunday on CNN his reflections on these reflections in recent days … calling Shane not to lose his new job at "Saturday Night Live", but rather … to to be forgiven and used as a teachable moment.
As we had announced … as soon as Shane was announced in the cast for the upcoming season, people dug up an old video of him make racist jokes on the Asians. Since then, he has apologized to the offended, claiming that he "sometimes pushes the boundaries".

There was a mixed reaction to Yang's approach – as he says Jake Tapper – but he defends his position, saying that our society has become too punitive in these scenarios and that we, as a country, should strive to be better … opting for forgiveness where possible.
He raises another interesting point, arguing that Asian epithets often do not take the seriousness of other ethnic groups … while they are just as hurtful.
Yet, even with that said … he says we should drop this one, especially since Shane is a comedian and, in Andrew's eyes, their words have to be interpreted in this context.
For the record, I do not think he should lose his job. We would be better off being more indulgent than punitive. We are all human.

Of course, Yang offered to sit down with Shane to discuss the issue further. He added that he would not support the guy who was losing his job, adding that in the big picture of Shane's past work … he just did not want it. t find Shane to be "clever or bad" in his intentions.
It does not appear that Shane has agreed for the moment – and NBC officials have remained dumb on what will happen to Shane – but at least the olive branch is out there.
