The Democratic presidential candidate, Andrew Yang, said Saturday that he did not believe that the controversial new cast member of the "Saturday Night Live" cast, Shane Gillis, should lose his job for using an insult against Chinese, adding that he was "happy to sit down and talk" with the comedian.
NBC announced Thursday that Gillis would be one of three new cast members of the venerable variety show. A few hours later, a video on YouTube showing Gillis and fellow countryman Matt McCusker discussing Chinatown, an unidentified city.

In a late statement Thursday, Gillis offered to apologize "to anyone who complains about everything I said."
"I am a comedian who pushes the limits," began the statement. "I miss it sometimes.If you go through my 10 years of comedy, most bad, you will find a lot of bad manias … My intention is to not hurt anyone, but I'm trying to be the best comedian I can be and sometimes it requires risks.

In a follow-up tweet, the presidential candidate added, "For the record, I do not think he should lose his job. We would be better off being more indulgent than punitive. We are all human. "
