Android 12 will be the last update to the very expensive Sony Xperia 1 III

Sony’s ultra-expensive Xperia 1 III won’t offer much software support. The Dutch branch of the company apparently told a Dutch point of sale that the handset will only get one OS update and two years of security support.

That doesn’t bode well for a phone that many reviews, including our Victor Hristov, have indicated that this could prove to be a difficult sell. Announced in April, the phone only recently got a release date and at the time of its August 19 release, the price of $ 1,299.99 would be even harder to justify.

Sony Xperia 1 III will ship with Android 11

The Xperia 1 III features a 6.5-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, 21: 9 aspect ratio, and 1644 x 3840 resolution. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip. which is associated with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The phone is 5G compatible, but only sub-6 GHz is supported.

The triple-camera array on the rear includes a dual-lens telephoto lens and the device offers video recording up to 4K / 60p and proprietary dual-phase AF detection and tracking technologies.

It has a 4,500mAh battery and offers 30W wireless charging. Two front speakers, headphone jack, IP68 water and dust certification and notification LED light are also integrated. The device has a premium build that has been spoiled somewhat by the bezels, but consumers who don’t like notches and pinholes will likely tell you otherwise. Unlike almost all top-of-the-line from 2021, this one doesn’t have an under-display fingerprint scanner.
Overall, these are solid specs, but the common consensus is that the phone is disappointed with the price. For comparison, the 256GB Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max costs $ 1,199 and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra with the same storage costs $ 1,249.
Apple, Samsung, and most of the other bigwigs in the industry are also supporting their phones for longer. Since the iPhone 4s of 2011, every flagship iPhone has received at least five major iOS updates. Samsung and OnePlus has pledged to update three operating systems for its recent flagships, and there are rumors that the next Pixel 6 will get five Android updates.
It’s also not a good idea that the Xperia 1 III will ship with Android 11, which is about to be released as a final version of. Android 12 will likely be released in September. If this can console future owners, security updates will be monthly, and if anything abnormal occurs, fixes will be released beyond the end of the two-year period.
